Debate: 24-inch Fat Bike Carbon Wheel Comes

Surly, one of the world's most well-known bicycle manufacturers, recently released their new fat bike, the Moonlander 2.0. >> LINK

In 2011, Surly pushed the boundaries further with the release of the original Moonlander. Nowadays in 2024 the new generation Moonlander 2.0 takes human-powered overlanding to a whole new level. It is equipped with 24-inch wheels, the massive 6.2-inch tires Surly Molanda, a Pinion gearbox, and 197mm front and rear spacing. With such wide tires, you can go anywhere you haven't ridden before.

According to Surly,

"A portal into previously unridden terrain, Moonlander goes where other fat bikes don’t dare, where traction is a supposed myth and the only grams worth saving are in our Dugout Bag."

"Our newly developed, high-volume Molenda tires were key. (Even the fattest in-market tires don’t cut it, and that includes our own line.) Therefore, we equipped this one with 24 x 6.2-inch tires on 100mm rims. Such a large footprint allows us to ride at very low pressure, enabling the ability to float over a geographic smorgasbord of otherworldly terrain. Think rocky dunes, creeping shorelines, frozen beaches, sinuous stretches of snow and the like."

What are the advantages of this new Moonlander 2.0 in reality ride?

Recently we have received several specific inquiries, whether NEXTIE team would like to develop 24-inch carbon fiber fat bike rims for Surly Moonlander 2.0, reducing the bike weight?

As a member of the global bicycle industry, NEXTIE has been committed to developing stronger and lighter bicycle wheels. Especially in the development of fat bike carbon rims, we have already made the most complete range of carbon fiber fatbike rims in the world. We are willing to add a new model of 24 inch fatbike rim to promote the development of the fatbiking industry. We are considering developing a 24 inch 100mm carbon rim as a member of Xiphias family.

We would like to ask the opinions of the majority of fatbike riders, would you consider a fat bike equipped with 24 inch wheels as your winter beast? Welcome to leave your thoughts in the comment section below or contact us to share your opinions.
